STONE CIRCLE

Saltwick Bay, just south of Whitby.

With Black Nab rock stack rising prominently to the right, and the whale-shaped Saltwick Nab standing in silhouette in the centre distance, this is a location that provides both picturesque sunrises and sunsets due to its exposed location and reflective mirror-like pools.

The flat stones in the foreground are found in abundance on the sheets of bedrock, but frequently change their position due to the power of the tides.

Known for a rich history of geological features, fossils, alum mines, 17th century harbours and shipwrecks, Saltwick Bay is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Location: Whitby, UK
