OUSEBURN SCHOOLS

Built in 1893, and formerly separate boys and girls schools, this imposing and quirky Victorian structure is situated on Albion Row, Byker.

The building is notable for its distinctive architecture, including Dutch-style gables and pagoda-style turrets, influenced by Burmese temples.

After its use as a school ceased in the 1960s, it initially became an Education Committee Distribution Centre and is now a Business Centre enjoying Grade 2 Listed Building status.

Evoking images of the old-style schooling methods that our forebears had to endure, it must have been an intimidating sight for any prospective primary age pupil.

Location: Byker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK
